Instant Apple Crisp

We went to a beautiful orchard nearby with friends for Luke's first apple-picking experience.  This was a great cost-efficient family outing and baby-friendly with a carrier.
We got McIntosh apples and today, decided to make apple crisp.  I tried something a little different today using instant oatmeal packages.  Here's how:

1.  Take your baby apple-picking.  When they aren't looking, throw out all the hole filled and rotting apples they chose.  Replace them with edible ones.
2.  Wash, peel, and cut the apples.  We used 12 small-medium sized.

3.  Mix 3 instant oatmeal packets (we used low sugar maple/brown sugar) with 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup plain oatmeal, and a stick of softened butter.  I added the plain oatmeal to make it a little less sweet, since we had some in the house anyway.
4.  Put apples in a greased pan and sprinkle the mixture over them.  Sprinkle cinnamon on top to taste.

5.  Bake on 350 for about 20 minutes (depending on how crispy you want the crisp).

We let Luke have a taste!  He loved it.  I'd say it's not as tasty as the real thing but a close runner up and certainly a but easier and faster to make (maybe a little healthier too?)

  1. Apple crisp is one of my favorite Fall desserts. This looks delicious. Thanks for linking up at Share Your Stuff Tuesday.
